Book Review-The Silver Suitcase By: Terrie Todd

The Silver Suitcase
By:  Terrie Todd
Publisher:  Waterfall Press

The setting of this book is the beginning of WWII in 1939 in Canada.

At seventeen Cornelia lost her beloved solder, Henry, in a train wreck while on his way to report to duty. She is alone with a deep secret that causes her to make a choice that will haunt her for the rest of her life.  The event was so devastating she told no one, but her diary.

Decades later, Cornelia’s granddaughter, Benita is facing her own crisis, one after the other until her marriage is on the brink of disaster.  It is then Benita discovers her grandmother’s diary.  As Benita reads the diary she begins her journey of healing.

I was immediately swept up in Cornelia’s story and didn’t put the book down until I was finished.  MS. Todd weaves the lives of three women, spanning several generations, together in a story that will touch your heart in a way that will be with you long after you have read the last page.  When Benita had seemingly almost lost all that was important to her…the diaries of her grandmother gave her hope and inspiration to pick up the pieces and begin again.  Benita was faced the same crises many of us face today, so I felt connected to her on that level.  This is truly a book of inspiration and it goes to prove that we never know how many people we will touch in our lifetime and with the legacy we leave behind.  I highly recommend this book, just be sure to have the tissue box handy.

Book Review-Home to Cedar Branch By: Brenda Bevan Remmes

Home to Cedar Branch
By: Brenda Bevan Remmes
Publisher:  Lake Union

When life throws you a curve, have you ever wished you could just go home and heal?
That is exactly what Katy Devine did when her world turned upside down.  Being in an abusive marriage with her husband Hank, she looked elsewhere for consolation…the town doctor.  When their adultery was announced to the whole town just because 3 young boys wanted a peep-show, Katy had no alternative but to pack up her children and leave town…back to Cedar Branch and home..the Quaker Café and the Quakers.

My heart was stolen by Katy and Dr. Attwuld’s wife.  Both women were in situations they didn’t ask to be in…yet they coped as best they could.  The twists and turns of this book will keep you turning the pages as the broken pieces of their lives are slowly put back together.  Thankfully Katy has the help of her brother and the Quakers who live in Cedar Branch.  I read this book in one afternoon.  If you need a book filled with forgiveness, love and inspiration…this is a book you won’t want to miss.  This is the first book I have read by MS. Remmes, but it won’t be my last.

Book Review-Keeper of the Stars By: Robin Lee Hatcher

Keeper of the Stars
By:  Robin Lee Hatcher
Publisher:  Thomas Nelson

From the back of the book:
Forgiveness is the only cure for heartbreak.
But can Penny forgive the man she holds responsible for her brother’s death?

Penny Cartwright thought when her mother died from pneumonia things could never be worse than that, but she was wrong, because now twelve years later she is burying her younger brother, Brad Cartwright.  Penny doesn’t think she will ever get over this loss and blames musician, Trevor Reynolds for her brother’s death. Little does she know eventhough Trevor wasn’t driving that night he too blames himself for Brad’s death.

When Brad comes to Kings Meadow to full-fill his promise to Brad, he is not well accepted by Penny.  She wants nothing to do with him.  Can Penny and Trevor learn to forgive? Can their hearts be healed?

This book had me hooked from the first page.  Penny stole my heart.  I felt her pain as she tried to deal with the death of someone she loved so much.  The twists and turns will keep you turning the pages till the end.  A beautifully written story of triumph over tragedy, filled with forgiveness, hope and love.

Book Review-Lots of Knock-Knock Jokes for Kids

Lots of Knock-Knock Jokes for Kids
By:  Whee Win
Publisher:  ZonderKidz

Do you remember the days when you were a kid and those knock-knock jokes were the funniest thing in the world?  Well Whee Winn has compiled a whole collection of knock-knock jokes just for kids.  You know when they are published by Zondervan you can trust them to be safe for your kids to read!  To top it off near the back there is a section jokes and riddles.  What is not to love about watching your children having fun and laughter in their lives?

I can truly attest to the side-splitting laughter from this book.  Recently my children and grandchild came to dinner.  After dinner our grandchild certainly kept us entertained with this book of jokes.  We laughed so hard we could hardly catch our breath. It certainly brought back lots of old memories, plus making new memories.   I would highly recommend this book, especially if you want to see lots of smiles.

Book Review-A Royal Easter Story

A Royal Easter Story
(The Princess Parables)
By:  Jeanna Young & Jacqueline Johnson
Illustrated by:  Omar Aranda

As the Royal Princesses, Joy, Grace, Faith, Charity and Hope get ready for the annual Easter Jubilee in the nearby village they meet the noble sons of their father’s newest knight.  Finally the anticipated day of departure arrived and everyone climbed into their wagons and was on their way…until..the wagon wheel on the King’s wagon broke.  The new knight’s sons encouraged the king to go ahead and assured him they would take care of the princesses to see they arrived safely.  Once they were on their way again the girls decided to race the knight’s sons to see who would arrive first.  However along the way the girls faced some challenges that showed their selflessness and their trust in God.

This is such an adorable story. My great niece is going to love it.  She can’t seem to get enough of the Princess Series.  This book shows that even though competition can be fun, it’s not always winning, that has the biggest reward.

The illustrations are sure to grab the attention of even the youngest of your little princesses.

Book Review-A Chance At Love by T.K. Chapin

Nineteen-years old Kyle Reynolds wondered if he was destined to deliver pizzas for the rest of his life, but until he found his purpose in life…it put money in his pocket.  When Kyle delivered pizza to a church, little did he realize his life was about to change in a big way.

His grandmother was ill and needed help, so Kyle was volunteered to help her for a week.  However; his grandmother was the one who helped him by giving his life to the Lord.

When delivering pizza to a church Kyle saw beautiful Emily Hayden.  He felt she was an angel and his heart was stolen…but how was he going to get to know Emily especially since her parents were so protective and she had a secret she wouldn’t tell him because she was afraid if Kyle found out, he would have nothing to do with her.

This is one of the most beautiful love-stories I have read in a long time.  Not only is it about a young couple and their love for each other, but also about the most everlasting love that God has for each of us.

This book goes beyond the surface of love and shows the real basis for a lasting love.  Mr. Chapin takes the age old question of why does God let bad things happen to good people and answers the question in a way that is easy to understand.  Simply God doesn’t let bad things happen….He gave us free-will and our choices sometimes cause things to happen that shouldn’t.  Once again Mr. Chapin has written a book that has deeply touched my heart and dug down deep into my soul.  It has made me once again want to have a closer relationship with Jesus.

This book is sure to speak to your romantic side while it strengthens you faith.  The twists and turns in this beautifully written novel will keep you turning the pages and at the end leave you wanting the story to continue.

Thank you Mr. Chapin for another inspirational novel!
