Will Trent an agent for the GBI  goes undercover as a Bill Black in the drug dealer world.  He is working his way to the top to find the head drug dealer Big Whitey.
Lena Adams is a detective for the Macon Police Department and her husband is a motorcycle cop.  Lena led an unsuccessful attack on a drug house in hopes of catching the elusive Big Whitey.  A few days later she and her husband were brutally attacked in their home.  Many believed it was Lena’s fault for the attack.  To weave a little more intrigue into the mix, Will’s girlfriend, Dr.  Sara Linton is Jared’s stepmother.  Sara hates Lena and if Will told her he was helping Lena it just might end their relationship.
This is an intricately woven mystery with 3 distinct views vacillating between present and past.  The twists and turns keep you turning to pages to find out who Big Whitey was or even if he existed.
I would recommend this book because it has a great plot and doesn’t lag and wane. The characters catch your attention from page one through the last page.  Although this is the first book I have read by Ms. Slaughter, I am looking forward to reading others by her.
